THE
GREENHOUSE
EFFECT

The greenhouse effect is a natural process in which carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor, mainly carbon dioxide, are concentrated in the atmosphere to keep the atmospheric temperature stable.

Since the industrial revolution, the increases in CO2 emissions are evident, for the year 2013 the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the United States – NOAA, reported that the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere exceeded for the first time the 400 parts per million (ppm).

The most harmful greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide. CO2, atmospheric emissions of which are the highest (50%), is the main factor responsible for the current and growing global warming. CO2 is emitted in all combustion processes and, therefore, is directly related to industrial growth, the use of fossil fuels, as well as increased road traffic.

According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), global emissions of carbon dioxide must be reduced to a minimum of half the level issued in 1990, by the year 2050 at the latest, to avoid a catastrophic change in climate.
